Spider people

Interview with scholar Marilyn Fowler, tracing her Sami origins in the Lofoten islands, March 2015

Before I went up there, I have a friend who is a reader, a psychic reader, and he started to have these spontaneous visions of this place. He called me up and he said: ‘‘I have this vision, it’s an island with a tall mountain and a spiderweb superimposed over the mountain.’’
At the same time, I had been reading an another history book on the Sami, and there was a passage in there about groups of the Sami who were called ‘‘the spider people.’’ Spiderwebs… and then I tough, wait!, spiderwebs look like fishing nets, maybe this was… maybe they were fishing people.
