A place to save the Amazon

Jay Burney, founder of the Times Beach Nature Preserve, Buffalo (NY), May 2018

There is such a connection with the Earth here. We’ve got Tundra, Arctic and South America birds that come down there. We have birds here that spend all winter in the Amazon basin, we have five species of swallows, we know they spent all winter in the Amazon. And what I am talking about in “saving the planet”, everybody knows about “saving the Amazon”, well this is a place to save the Amazon. We think we hatched five thousands swallows, just in the inner harbor last summer. Five thousands baby swallows, they went to the Amazon, they are part of the biodiversity, so this is our responsability to give them a place.
